It is the mission of The National Reptile Zoo:
– to inspire passion amongst the general public about the lesser known species such as reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates
– to increase the levels of understanding of nature, its conservation, and our place within it as a species
– to assist in the conservation of individual species and their habitats
– to evoke a desire within the individual person to become more interactive with the natural world around them
The Zoo will achieve this:
– by displaying animals respectfully in naturalistic environments
– by gathering data on these animals, in a non-invasive manner, to further contribute to knowledge which can help the species
– by becoming involved in ethically sound captive breeding programs
– by engaging with our visitors through educational, informative and interactive displays
– by making the facility easily accessible to educational and research organisations
– by bringing elements of the facility to an audience whom otherwise would not have access to the facility, using our mobile zoo service
– by using Zoo and staff expertise to assist in conversational field work, and help fund this work
